A little help choosing

How many crates will you need?

Tell us about the home you’re packing. Include books, kitchenware, clothing, and stored belongings. Furniture travels separately.

Light: mostly essentials and room in the closets. Typical: everyday items and moderately filled closets. Full: packed closets, lots of books or kitchenware, collections, or garage and attic storage.

This is an initial packing guide, not a guarantee. Square footage alone does not measure belongings. Adjust the package for what you actually plan to pack; we’ll refine these recommendations using rental feedback.

Images illustrate relative package sizes. Exact crate and included dolly counts are listed on each card. Approximate home sizes are for a typical amount of belongings. Use the calculator to adjust for your packing needs.

Leaving the Lowcountry?

Moving farther?

Already have a mover in mind? We’re exploring ways to coordinate crate returns with your moving company, so packing with reusable crates could still be part of your move.

Out-of-area rentals and mover partnerships are in planning. A return arrangement and any additional charges must be confirmed before crates leave Greater Charleston.

The move is only half the trip.

You’ll need time to unpack after delivery. Before choosing crates, make a plan for how the empties get back to Charleston.

  1. Know your destination, moving date, and how much unpacking time you need.
  2. Ask your mover whether they can collect the empty crates later and bring them back to Charleston.
  3. Confirm who handles the return, when it happens, and what it costs before booking.

A mover’s return trip does not automatically include crate collection. Moving services are arranged separately from your crate rental.
